Raymond Robert "Bob" Vandeveer Jr., 88, of Charleston, IL, died at 12:05 am Thursday, on July 31, 2025, at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospice House, in Mattoon, IL.

Visitation will be held from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2025 at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola.   A family-only grave side service will follow at the Arcola Cemetery with Pastor Bud Hance officiating.

Robert was born on October 10, 1936 in Filson, IL, the oldest son of Raymond and Irene (Janes) Vandeveer.  He married Fairy Lee Landers on November 26, 1965 and together they raised nine children.  Fairy Lee preceded him in death August 19, 2006.

Surviving him are nine children and their spouses:  Sue Rodriguez of San Antonio, TX, Charles and Emilie Vandeveer of Charleston, IL, Indiana Welty and partner Ron Duck of Cheyenne, WY, Molly Vandeveer and Georgia Vandeveer, both of Charleston, IL, Clarence & Robin Vandeveer of Austin, TX, Jessica Vandeveer of Champaign, IL, James (Ike) and Shelley Vandeveer of Lincoln, CA and John & Randi Vandeveer of Arcola, IL, 18 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by seven brothers and sisters:  Joyce (Jim) Finn of Arcola, IL, George (Ursula) Vandeveer of San Antonio, TX, Dorothy Adams of Mattoon, IL, Martha Carwile of Tuscola, IL, John (Melba) Vandeveer of Kempner, TX, Tom Vandeveer of Bella Vista, AR, and Cheryl Mills of Tuscola, IL and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by both parents and two brothers, Frank Vandeveer and Fred Vandeveer.

He graduated from Arcola High School in 1954. Many may remember him working at the Phillips 66 station.  Throughout his life, he was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. Some of his most enjoyable activities were walking, telling stories, spending time with his children, and playing board games with them.
