Obituary

William"Bill"Carter Knobloch, 90, of Arthur, died at 6:10 AM Sunday, January 26, 2014 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.

Funeral services with Masonic Rites will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, January 30, 2014 at Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street, Arthur, with Pastor Dennis Hanner officiating. Burial will follow in the Arthur Cemetery with military rites accorded. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service.

Bill was born September 11, 1923 in Decatur, the son of Perry W. and Rhea Carter Knobloch. He was united in marriage to Anna Margaret Clausen on June 2, 1946 at the Zion United Church of Christ, rural Arthur.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Knobloch of Arthur; son, Paul W. and wife Sarah T. Knobloch of Altoona, Iowa; grandsons, Alan W. and wife Brenna Knobloch of Olympia, Washington; Alex P. Knobloch of Altoona, Iowa; great grandsons, Caiden and Callen Knobloch of Olympia, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bill was a graduate of the Arthur High School Class of 1942 and attended the University of Illinois for a semester. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Zion United Church of Christ. He was a member and past commander of the Arthur American Legion Post #479; he served as past Flotilla Commander and Division Captain of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla #28 of Arthur; he was a former member of the Atwood Grain and Supply Company; past president of the Arthur Park Board; life member of the VFW; life member of the Arthur AF&AM Lodge #825; member of the A.A.S.R. Northern Masonic Jurisdiction of Danville; Ansar Shriners International of Springfield; and member of the Mattoon 40/8 Post #717.

Bill served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Force and spent 2 ½ years on the Pacific Front.

Memorials are suggested to the Zion United Church of Christ or the Arthur American Legion Post #479.
