William E. "Bill" Johnson, 86, of Arthur, died at 12:35 AM Friday, April 10, 2009 at the Arthur Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, April 13, 2009 at Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street, Arthur, with Rev. Michael Johnson officiating. Graveside services will follow at 4:00 PM at the Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Centralia. Visitation will be held Sunday from 5:00-7:00 PM at the funeral home.

Mr. Johnson was born October 6, 1922 in Sandoval, the son of George and Ida B. Taber Johnson. He married Margaret Fuchs in Sandoval on October 18, 1945; she preceded him in death on October 30, 1989.

Survivors include one son, Jim Johnson and wife Bonnie of West Frankfort; 2 daughters, Cindy Demaree and husband Bob of Tolono; Sandra Fustin and husband Robert of Arthur; 6 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and 5 step great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and 9 siblings.

Mr. Johnson was a chemical operator for over 30 years at the former U.S.I. Chemical Corp. in Tuscola. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers #515 and the Arthur American Legion Post. He loved gardening, reading, the Cubs, politics, and will be remembered for his great sense of humor.

He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the Army Air Force.
