William H. Carlyle, 86, of rural Tuscola, IL, passed away at 6:33 p.m., Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Palm Terrace, Mattoon, IL
Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at the Zion United Church of Christ, rural Arthur, IL with Rev. Dennis Hanner and Rev. Kenneth Roedder officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., on Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in the Zion Church Cemetery, rural Arthur, IL with military graveside rites accorded. Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL is entrusted with the arrangements.
Bill was born on June 9, 1927 in Mattoon, IL, the son of Harry Carlyle and Ida Pearl Hood Carlyle Tenison. He married Mary Fern Heit on August 23, 1954 in Pekin, IL. She survives.
Other survivors include his daughters: Katana S. Ponder of Hammond, IL, Ramona A. Carlyle of Tuscola, IL, and Marcia G. (Dave) Hackett of Tuscola, IL, 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, brother: Gene (Peggy) Carlyle of Mattoon, IL, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Delores Wyatt and son-in-law: Harold Ponder

Bill retired from Equistar Chemical Company in Tuscola, where he worked as a chemical operator for 35 years. He formerly worked for the Illinois Central Railroad and he enjoyed helping on the farm.
Bill was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ and the James Reeder American Legion Post #770, Atwood, IL. He served his country during World War II as a member of the US Navy. Bill served as the Garrett Township Supervisor for several years and he was the quarterback of the Mattoon Green Wave football team when they won the Big 12 conference in 1944. He enjoyed anything to do with the railroad, farming, camping, boating, woodworking, restoring antiques, helping with auctions and he was an avid sportsman.
