William D. "Bill" Wierman, 94, of Atwood, IL, passed away at 11:37 p.m., Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Piatt County Nursing Home, Monticello, IL
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Monday, April 4, 2016 at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, IL with military graveside rites accorded.
Bill was born on June 24, 1921 in Piatt County, IL, the son of Elby and Daisy Hughes Wierman. He married Alma Marie Shonkwiler on June 7, 1947 in Atwood, IL. She preceded him in death on August 13, 1990.
Survivors include his son: Dan (Nancy) Wierman of Atwood, IL, Grandchildren: Angie (Tim) Schable of Atwood and Justin (Stacey) Wierman of Monticello, Great-grandchildren: Callie, Kolby and Chloe Schable, Bailee, Brooklyn and Benton Wierman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers: Bus, Jerry and Spence Wierman.
Bill retired from the Atwood Grain Company. He served his country in the US Army during World War II in the Southwest Pacific Theatre, including an engagement in the Philippines. Bill served as past commander and was a member of the James Reeder American Legion Post #770, Atwood, IL for over 70 years.
He was a member of the United Church of Atwood and a past member of the Atwood Lion's Club.
Bill enjoyed mowing, raking yards and trimming trees.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the American Legion Auxiliary or to the United Church of Atwood.
