Obituary

William H. "Bill" Rogers, Sr., 94, of Tuscola, IL, passed away at 4:30 a.m., Thursday, April 24, 2014 at the Tuscola Health Care Center, Tuscola, IL

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at the Forty Martrys Catholic Church, 201 East Van Allen Street, Tuscola, IL, with Father Delix Michel as celebrant. Following the mass, burial will be at the Tuscola Township Cemetery with military graveside rites accorded.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, April 28, 2014 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL. A vigil service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Monday at the funeral home.

Bill was born on July 20, 1919 in Villa Grove, IL, the son of William H. and Zula Scott Rogers. He married Irene Teeters on October 10, 1940 in Tuscola, IL.

He is survived by his wife, Irene, and his children: Bill (Sharon) Rogers of Camargo, IL, Bob (Cindy) Rogers of Highland, IL, Bev (Greg) Obrecht of Tuscola, IL, Barb (Gary) Smith of St. Charles, IL, and Bruce (DeAnna) Rogers of Charleston, IL, 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter: Brenda Rogers-Bunte, granddaughter: Ashley Smith and his sister: Rosemary Wrather

Bill proudly served his country as a member of the US Army during World War II.

Bill and Irene owned and operated Rogers Florist in Tuscola for 53 years and the former Rogers Market. He was a member of the Forty Martyrs Catholic Church. Bill was a member and past president of the Illinois State Florist's Association and a member of the FTD delivery service. He was a former Douglas County Probation Officer, Tuscola City Council Member and Cub Scout Master. Bill was a member and past president of the Tuscola Rotary Club and worked with the United Way Campaign. He served as the Master of Ceremonies at many Miss Tuscola contests. Bill was an avid pistol shooter. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, skeet and trap shooting.
