Wanda June Newlin, 67, of Atwood, IL, went to be with her Lord (August 24, 2008) at home surrounded by family and friends, after a long courageous battle with myelofibrosis and acute leukemia.
Celebration of Life Services will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 29, 2008 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36 Atwood, IL with Rev. Joseph Carter officiating. Visitation will be 6-8 PM Thursday, August 28, 2008 at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, IL
Wanda was born June 20, 1941 in Olney, IL to Irl and Golda Scherer Lutz. She graduated from West Richland High School in 1958, and Eastern Illinois University in 1962. She married Jerry D. Newlin on October 6, 1962 in Passport, IL. She taught Home Economics for two years at Highland High School in Highland, IL. For twenty-four years, she was the Home Economics teacher at Atwood-Hammond High School in Atwood, where she also taught, Business Education and Family Living. After retiring, she worked as a sales associate at the Tuscola Factory Outlet. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, Tuscola, IL. She played the piano and was a very gifted seamstress. She loved sewing for her grandchildren. She made many beautiful quilts and enjoyed crafting.
Left to cherish her memory are her Husband: Jerry, Daughter: Jill Heathcott and husband Brent of Gambrills, Maryland, Grandchildren: Laurna Heathcott, 6, Madison Heathcott, 4, and Garrett Heathcott, 7 months, Brother: John Lutz and wife: Helen of Arcola, IL, Sister-In-Law: Elinor Lutz of Homer, IL, several nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, Son: Brent, Three Brothers and Four Sisters.
A special thanks to the nurses at Provena Health Care Center who so lovingly cared for her for several years, and to Dr. Eikram for his willingness to accept her knowledge and work with her treating her disease.
