Obituary
Virtis Willie Jinkins, 78, of Mattoon, died at 10:35 PM on December 19, 2014 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital.
Virtis was born August 2, 1936 in McRae, Arkansas, the son of Samuel Luther and Alma Edna Haney Jinkins. He married Sandra Sue Sallee in Mattoon on June 4, 1960.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Jinkins of Mattoon; daughter, Lydonna (Thomas) Sullivan of Searcy, Arkansas; 2 sons, Victor (Debbie) Jinkins of Arcola; Samuel (Heidi) Jinkins of Naples, Florida; brother, Lawrence Jinkins of Clayton, Indiana; 4 sisters, Rachel Poindexter and Odean Murray both of Judsonia, Arkansas; Alma Faye Morgan of Toledo; Ida Abbot of Mattoon; 5 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Samuel and Eulis; 2 sisters, Mary and Ruth.
Virtis served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion and 40 & 8 Club in Diamond City, Arkansas. He was a retired machinist.
There will be a memorial service at a later date. Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, is assisting the family with arrangements.
