Virginia Maye Reedy, 87, of Urbana passed away at 11:05 PM Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Friday, July 18, 2014 at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, with Pastor Richard Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in the Arcola Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00-2:30 PM Friday at the funeral home.
Virginia was born December 15, 1926, near Arthur, the daughter of J. Lemiul and Roxie M. Crowe Gillenwater. She married Merrill Platson and had a daughter, Karon. She married Bernus Dean Reedy on August 22, 1950; he preceded her in death in 1961.
Survivors include four children, Karon Anne Platson Busby of Brocton; Roger Dean Reedy of Urbana; Janice Marie ( Richard) Reedy Sharpton of Stinnett, Texas; Karon's half sister, Joann (Robert) Lokken; sisters, Geneva O. Schaffer Gaskin and Pearl R. Rink of Clarksburg, Tennessee; eight grandchildren, Mitchell "J.R." (Beth) Cornwell, Julie Ann Cornwell, Charles "Chuck" (Renata) Collier, Christopher Reedy, Corey (Brittany) Reedy, Clayton Sharpton, Brian (Melissa) Sharpton, Kimberly (David) Catano; fourteen great-grandchildren (another due in November), Mitchell, Carissa, and Megan Cornwell; Nolan and Lauren Collier; Colton McGehee, Aubrey Catano, Christopher Sharp; Alexia Roundtree; Kye, Allyson, and Adria Reedy; Kristina and Clayton Sharpton, Jr.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Charles, Floyd, and Leo; son, Lloyd Franklin "Frank" Reedy; son-in-law, Roger Busby; and one great-grandchild, Nicole Collier.
Virginia was very active in the Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church and was involved with the food pantry program. She loved to quilt bedspreads and had quilting sessions where she made lifelong friends. She loved to fish, do mental crossword puzzles, and, in her later years, took up oil painting. She was a cook for the Pierson Station grade school and her love of cooking continued thoughout her life.
Memorials are suggested to the Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church in Urbana.
