Virgie Lavange Smith, 93, of Tuscola, IL, passed away at 5:13 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2023 at the Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon, IL

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 13, 2023 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL with Father Angel  Sierra officiating.

Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

Graveside Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday at the Bone Gap Cemetery, Bone Gap, IL

Virgie was born on December 12, 1929 in Albion, IL, the daughter of Herb and Hannah Mason Barnhart. She married Lowell D. Henby on November 7, 1950 in Albion. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1974. She married John S. Smith in April 1979. He preceded her in death on April 14, 1992.

Survivors include her sons: Barry (Barb) Henby of Gurnee and Gary (Sue) Henby of Metamora, daughter: Brenda (Roger) Reed of Neoga, 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, stepson: Rick Smith of Avon, CO and stepdaughter: Rosemary Smith of Pittsboro, 3 step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, stepdaughter: Stephanie Liptak and 7 siblings.

She attended the First Presbyterian Church, Forty Martyrs Catholic Church and Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

Virgie had a contagious smile that people loved. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and friends. Virgie enjoyed gardening, watching her children's activities, feeding and watching birds, fishing, going to estate sales and just enjoying life.
