Vida Jean Murry, 82, of Tuscola, passed away at 11:06 a.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL surrounded by her family members and friends.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 14, 2025 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Vida was born December 21, 1942 in Worland, Wyoming the daughter of John David and Katherine Rice McCarthy. She married William Larry Murry on November 30,1974 in Waltonville, IL. He preceded her in death on November 12, 2024.
Survivors include her children: Karen (Mike) Rueckert of Rantoul, Caleb Murry of Tuscola and Jenna Murry of Safety Harbor, FL, grandchildren: Mike Murphy, Julian Murphy and Mia Murry and 9 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: Michael, Joanne and Maureen.
Vida was a long-time girl scout field director with the Green Meadows Girl Scout Council. She was a member of the Tuscola Kiwanis Club. She enjoyed the outdoors and horses.
Vida had a love of animals that started as a young child with Jigs, the wonder horse, and continued throughout her life with many beloved dogs, cats, and horses. Among her most cherished pets were Angel Ann (horse), Duffy Sue (collie), and Red Dog. She also did basic obedience training with a standard poodle named Sheba, who later went on to receive specialized training as a service dog. Vida's deep compassion for animals was something she passed on to her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her love of animals, Vida had a passion for the performing arts. She was an active member of the local community theater, VGCT and ARTCO, where she found joy both onstage and behind the scenes. Whether acting in a production or helping with costumes and sets, she brought creativity, energy, and a generous spirit to every performance. Her involvement in theater brought her lasting friendships and enriched the community she loved.
