Victor Eugene "Gene" Eyestone, 83, of Atwood, IL, passed away at 8:21 p.m., Thursday, January 14, 2010 at the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL with his family at his side.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 17, 2010 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL, with the Rev. Veronica Don officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Cartwright Cemetery, rural Tuscola, IL with military graveside rites accorded.

Gene was born on July 3, 1926 in Garrett, IL. He was one of eight children born to LeRoy Webster and Nellie Mae Shipley Eyestone. He married Hila C. Buoy on July 11, 1953 in Garrett, IL. She survives.

Also surviving are his daughters: Debra Harned of Hammond, IL, Lisa (Gary) Jay of Atwood, IL and Beth (Berrie) Slade of Hammond, IL. four grandchildren: Christopher Jay , Tara Jay, Kelsey Jay and Blake Harned, sister and brothers: Mary "Sis" Conner of Hammond, IL, Merle (Barbara) Eyestone of Champaign, IL, and Earl (Donna) Eyestone of McLeansboro, IL,

He was preceded in death by one son: Alan Eugene, his parents, brothers: Carl, Vaughn, Harry and Robert.

His military service included: United States Army World War II in Korea and Japan and was employed with the US Government in Japan for 7 years following the war. He was a member of the James Reeder American Legion Post #770, Atwood, IL for over 50 years. Gene was employed and retired from USI Chemical Company after 35 years and he was a member of the United Church of Atwood.
