Obituary

Verneal "Neal" June Graham, 85, of Arthur, IL, died at 8:23 am, Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016 at Zilber Family Hospice in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin after a year and a half long battle with pancreatic and lung cancer.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 pm Friday, October 7, 2016 at Shrader Funeral Home, 431 South Vine Street, Arthur, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016 at the Arthur United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Weiman and Rev. Leroy Allison officiating. Burial will follow in the Arthur Cemetery.

Neal was born July 12, 1931 in Clinton, IL the daughter of Raymond R. and Ida Wattles Fryman. She married Dr. Robert Graham in Champaign, IL on August 4, 1951. He preceded her in death on March 21, 2012.

She is survived by her son, John C. Graham of Peterborough, New Hampshire; daughter, Dr. Mary Beth Graham and husband Dr. Neal R. Nygard of Brookfield, Wisconsin; brother, Rodney G. Fryman of New Hampshire; half sister, Nadine Maddalena of Marrieta, California; sister-in-law, Betty J. Graham of Paris, IL; special daughter, Vicky Bright and husband Steve of Arcola, IL; 4 grandsons, 1 granddaughter, and 1 great-granddaughter. She was proud of the fact that all of her grandsons have been active in Boy Scouts of America and attained or will soon attain the rank of Eagle Scout.

She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Aldora Dunning; brothers, Ronald L. and Raymond D. Fryman; half sister, Eileen Lacy; and half brother, Leo R. Fryman.

Neal graduated from Wapella High School and attended the University of Illinois studying elementary education. After meeting Robert, she decided to become an animal health technician and worked side by side with him in the Graham Veterinary Clinic in Arthur from 1957 to July 2008. Together they were able to make multiple international trips with the American Veterinary Medical Association to help educate locals on practices used in the US for the care of animals.

Neal was a member of the Arthur United Methodist Church where she volunteered as a pre-K Sunday school teacher for 22 years. She was an avid reader and member of the Arthur Public Library Board for 21 years. She had a love for people and animals and always looked forward to visits from prior "furry and non-furry" clients and friends. She will be remembered fondly and missed by many.

Memorials are suggested to the Arthur Public Library or to the Arthur United Methodist Church.
