On Sunday, June 16th, 2024, Timothy Patrick Burk peacefully passed away at Green Gardens Memory Care Facility in Sullivan, IL, at the age of 73.
Tim is survived by his wife Michele; his son Dusty (Julie) of Springfield, IL; two precious grandchildren, Blythe Lavonne (15) and Case Rockne (12); brother Michael (Gloria) of Champaign, IL; nieces Sarah Burk and Melissa (Gerti) Haxhinasto; great-nieces Emma and Julie Haxhinasto; sister-in-law Pam Day (Dean) of Bement; nephew Mike Day (Cheryl) of Cerro Gordo; great-nephews Chayton Day and Luke Day; great-niece Sierra Walter (Austin); and niece-in-law Kristi Day and the McDade family.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents Patricia Coe Lucchini Burk and Charles Edward Burk; his nephew Bobby Day; and his aunt and uncle Louise and Richard Bean who he lived with from age 5.
Tim was born on April 29, 1951, in Portland, Oregon. He graduated in 1969 from Atwood-Hammond High School, the home of the Rajahs, and went on to attend Monmouth College, home of the Fighting Scotts, where he graduated in 1975 with a degree of Bachelor of Arts. He was a member of the Theta Chi fraternity.
Tim married Michele Lynn Adams on May 25, 1974, in Bement, IL. They had been high school sweethearts, and they were able to celebrate their 50th anniversary three weeks ago.
In 1980, they welcomed the birth of their son, Dustin Richard.
Other highlights of Tim's life included playing semi-pro football for the Madison Mustangs in Madison, WI. Tim taught English and coached at Tuscola, Sullivan, Villa Grove, and Atwood-Hammond. His coaching assignments included football, basketball and track over the years. He was thrilled when he coached his son's teams.
During retirement, Tim enjoyed building bunk beds and traveling. There were many road trips to games with the Vukeliches and other family and friends. Many dinners were attended at the Adams', Days' and the McDades'. He enjoyed his coffee group of friends and Friday night suppers at the Tuscola Moose. Tim and Michele traveled five times to Ireland with a dear friend, Cheryl Murphy, and other friends.
The Burk family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to Tradition's Hospice for their outstanding care and compassion. Also a big thank you to Green Gardens Memory Care facility in Sullivan, IL for their constant compassion, kindness, support and love.
Visitation will be held at 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2024, at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the St. Isidore Catholic Church, 364 County Road 2000 North, Bethany, IL. Burial will be in St. Isidore Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Traditions Hospice or Atwood-Hammond Public Library.
