Thomas E. VanVoorhis, 93, of Tuscola, IL, passed away at 4:50 a.m., Friday, September 3, 2010 at the Tuscola Health Care Center, Tuscola, IL
Masonic and Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, September 6, 2010 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL, with the Rev. Joy Starwalt officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial with military graveside rites will be held at the Tuscola Township Cemetery.
Mr. VanVoorhis was born on August 1, 1917 in Douglas County, IL, the son of Van and Albateen Entler VanVoorhis. He married Jewel Bean on February 12, 1938 in Newman, IL. She preceded him in death on August 24, 2004.
Survivors include several nieces and nephews and 2 great-great nieces.
He was preceded in death by one brother.
Tom served as the Douglas County Circuit Clerk for 24 years, having retired on November 30, 1984. He was also the former manager at Anderson's Department Store in Tuscola. Tom was a US Navy World War II Veteran. He was a 50 year member of the Tuscola Masonic Lodge #332, AF & AM and he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
