Thelma Algenia Thompson, 102, of Atwood, passed away at 12:45 p.m., Monday, March 11, 2013, at the Arthur Home, Arthur.
Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2013, at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East U.S. 36, Atwood, with the Rev. Michael Drake officiating. Burial will be in the Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, IL. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Thelma was born on Nov. 4, 1910, in Piatt County, IL, the daughter of Samuel "Ab" and Daisy M. Burnett Erhardt. She married Herbert C. Thompson on November 25, 1959, in Atwood. He preceded her in death on March 14, 2001.
Survivors include her daughters, Marilyn Henkel and husband Neil of Arthur, and Sharon Romine and husband Skip of Atwood; four grandchildren, Todd (Angie) Romine of Tuscola, Jodi (Jeff) Heckel of Champaign, Rob Henkel of Burlington, Vt., and Amy (Chris) Lupinski of Brookfield, Conn.; and six great-grandchildren.
Thelma attended the University of Illinois and Brown's Business College in Decatur. She worked at the ASC office and for CILCO in Tuscola.
She also helped operate the family farm. She was a talented seamstress who made many of her clothes when she was younger, and she enjoyed gardening.
After retirement, she and her late husband Herb spent the winter months in Mesa, Ariz., and they traveled extensively, visiting many of our country's national parks.
Thelma was a good cook who loved baking for her grandchildren and spending time with them and her great-grandchildren.
She saw many changes in her lifetime, from using horses to work the family farm to embracing new technology by learning to use a computer at age 80.
Thelma was a member of the United Church of Atwood.
Memorials are suggested to the United Church of Atwood Kitchen Fund.
