Sidney W. DeLong, 86, of Atwood, IL, passed away at 2:45 pm, Sunday, September 4, 2011 at the Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, IL
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at the Forty Martyrs Catholic Church, 201 East Van Allen Street, Tuscola, IL, with Father Barry Harmon as celebrant. Visitation will be held 2 hours prior to the mass at the church. Burial will be in the Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, IL. Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, Atwood, IL is handling the arrangements.
Mr. DeLong was born on May 16, 1925 in Mt. Vernon, IL, the son of Sidney W. and Edyth Pritchet DeLong. He married June Dettmers on April 12, 1947 in Bethalto, IL. She survives.
Other survivors include his children: Larry DeLong of Decatur, IL, Mark (Jill) DeLong of Forsyth, IL, Kathy (Ed) Matthews of Germantown Hills, IL, Jacque (Drew) Rogers of Cedar Park,TX, Rick DeLong, Marcia DeLong, Brian (Jana) DeLong and Lori (Ron) Ryan all of Atwood, IL, 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, step-sister: Novella Cothern of Pana, IL
He was preceded in death by his parents, son: Ronnie DeLong, daughter-in-law: Sara DeLong and sister: Gwen Parker
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Forty Martyrs Catholic Church
Sid retired from Illinois Power Company in Decatur, IL, where he worked for 39 years as a maintenance supervisor. He was a member of the Forty Martyrs Catholic Church, Tuscola Moose Lodge, Knights of Columbus and the Jamaica Bay Club in Ft. Myers, FL. He and his wife also attended church at Resurrection Catholic Church in Ft. Myers, FL and St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ivesdale, IL. Sid was a St. Louis Cardinals and Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan. He loved spending time on the family farm. He and his wife enjoyed spending time at their retirement home in Florida.
The family would like to thank the staff of the DMH Cardiovascular Unit and also Dr. William Shackelford for taking such good care of their loved one.
