Shirley A. Laley, 70, of Tuscola, IL, died at 9:35 AM, Monday, August 21, 2006 at her residence.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Thursday, August 24, 2006 at the Forty Martyrs Catholic Church, 201 East Van Allen Street, Tuscola, IL. Visitation will be held from 5-8 PM, Wednesday, August 23, 2006 with a 4:00 PM Vigil Service at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, Tuscola, IL. Burial will be in Tuscola Township Cemetery, Tuscola, IL.


Mrs. Laley was born on July 14, 1936 in Borton, IL, the daughter of Harold C. and Ruth G. Campbell Zane. She married Wilfred G. "Bill" Laley on April 12, 1958 in Tuscola, IL. He survives. Bill and Shirley made their life long home in Tuscola.

Other survivors include: 3 Sons: Steven Laley and wife: Laura of Baton Rouge, LA; Robert Laley and wife: Susan of Mahomet, IL; Richard Laley and wife: Susan of Tuscola, IL; 1 Daughter: Patricia McHugh and husband: Duncan of Roscoe, IL.
1 Brother: Oscar Zane and wife: Carol of Tuscola, IL; 1 Sister: Sharon Roller and husband: Ron of Tuscola, IL; 13 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Shirley was a graduate of Oakland High School, Oakland, IL. She was always a homemaker first and then she was a former secretary for the University of Illinois Extension Services. She worked at Petals and Plants Florist in Tuscola, IL. She was a member of Forty Martyrs Catholic Church, Forty Martyrs Altar Society and the Douglas County Home Extension Unit. She was a former 4-H Leader. Shirley was the chief supporter of her grandchildren's sports and extracurricular activities. She was a St. Louis Cardinals and Fighting Illini fan.
