Shirley Kay Gilbert, 71, of Garrett, died at 10:29 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2023 at her residence.

Private family graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2023 at the Union (Greasy Point) Cemetery, rural Hindsboro, with Pastor Kent Conover officiating.  Shrader Funeral Home, Arcola, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Shirley was born May 20, 1952 in Tuscola, the daughter of Robert William and Delores Jean McDade Swisher.  She married Alan "Bud" Gilbert in Hindsboro on November 8, 1970; he preceded her in death on February 6, 2023.

Survivors include sons, Scott Gilbert and Rob Natalie; daughter, Amy Kauffman; 2 brothers, Ed Swisher and Lorie from Atwood; Bob (Donna) Wilkerson of Danville; 2 sisters, Barbara Herman of Cooks Mills; Brenda (Richard) Montague of Atwood; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her stepson, David Mulvaney.

Shirley was a graduate of Atwood High School Class of 1971.  She loved watching the birds and flowers in her garden and reading her Bible.

Memorials are suggested to the Douglas County Animal Shelter or Transitions Hospice.
