Sharon Luetta Gocking of Monticello, IL, passed away on Thursday, September 17, 2026 at the age of 83, under the care of Carle Hospital, with her loving husband of 61 years by her side.

Sharon was born on September 2, 1943, the daughter of Paul and Olive Franklin Huddle. She married James A. Gocking on May 15, 1965 in Villa Grove. He survives.

Also surviving are her sons: Stephen (Joan) Gocking of OH, Jeffrey (Angie) Gocking of TN, Brian (Nora) Gocking of KY, daughter: Rebekah Carter of IL, nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, brother: Paul (Melody) Huddle of CA and a host of extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters: Evelyn Brown and Patricia Sadler.

Sharon was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She retired as a secretary from the University of Illinois, College of Agriculture after 19 years of service. She was a member of the Monticello Church of the Nazarene, serving as a pianist for decades. She loved knitting, sewing, quilting, baking, and reading.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, September 27, 2026 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL with Pastor Rita Briggs officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Graveside Services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday September 28, 2026 at the Monticello Township Cemetery, Monticello, IL

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
