Sarah Jane Corrie, 90, left this world at 5:30 A.M., Friday, March 24, 2006 at her residence in Tuscola.
Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 26, 2006 at the Tuscola Cemetery. The Hilligoss-Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL is handling the arrangements. Friends and family are welcome.
Sarah Jane was born June 24, 1915, in Tuscola, IL, to G. R. Helm and Estelle Sipp Helm. She was married to Carl Lewis from 1935 until his death in 1951. She was married to Arthur Corrie from 1962 until his death in 1967.
Survivors include two daughters, Dixie (Dan) Curry of Arcola, IL and Sally Morris of Camargo, IL, six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Sarah Jane graduated from Tuscola High School, and attended Northwestern University in Evanston. She served as Chairperson of the Board of Directors of Tuscola National Bank from 1970 to 2002. Her grandfather, James Helm, was a founder of the bank in 1890. Her great-grandparents began farming in Douglas County over 200 years ago, and her interest in the family farm remained strong throughout her life. She served as a volunteer in the Jarman Hospital Auxiliary, and was proud to be a life member of the Douglas County Museum.
