IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sandra
Carr
October 27, 1941 – August 29, 2023
Sandra (Sandy) Kay Carr went to meet her Lord and Savior on August 29, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born October 27, 1941 in Franklin County IL to Ronald and Leota Grayhem. She graduated from Atwood High School in 1958, then married John Swartz in 1960. They share three daughters together. She was a faithful, long-time member of the Atwood Christian Church, where she met and married George (Herb) Carr in 1998. He preceded her in death in 2005.
Sandy had many hobbies and skills over the years. She made all kinds of crafts, became a hair stylist (worked at the Beauty Nook in Atwood, then later opened up her own beauty shop at her Atwood home), sold Beeline clothing with her daughter Tami in the late 1970's and was a successful Home Interior dealer/saleswoman well into the 1990's. She has worked in the numismatic business (coin collecting) and has also been a school bus driver and a limousine driver (she even owned her own hearse for a while)!
Her main passions were her family and her faith, her church/women's bible study group, and watching Illini basketball. She especially enjoyed baking and decorating cupcakes for her cupcake business that she started shortly after retiring in 2010 from her 25-year career at Carle Clinic. She founded the cupcake business with her daughter Ginger and her granddaughter Casey. She loved meeting new people and socializing at the vendor fairs. Sandy never knew a stranger!
Sandy is survived by her daughters, Tami (Gary) Hammond of Arthur IL, Ginger Swartz of Arthur IL, April Ashworth of Atwood IL, stepson Doug (Jackie) Carr of Monticello IL, and her two sisters, Donna Asmus of Charleston IL and Reba Bennett of Villa Grove IL. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren (including Herb's): Casey Evans of Atwood IL, Nick Hammond of Arthur IL, Christina Serrano of Corona CA, Holly Kauffman of Arcola IL, Ben Swartz of Carlyle IL, Lyndsi McEachern of Effingham IL, Travis Peake of Monticello IL, Aaron (Trisha) Carr of Monticello IL, and Ethan (Sophia) Carr of Westfield IN, as well as a combined total of 14 great-grandchildren. Sandy loved and was dearly loved by all of her nieces and nephews, but she was especially close to her oldest niece Debra Lynn Craig of Camanche, IA. Last but not least, Sandy is also survived by her four-legged companion of the past 15 years, "Kittykat"!
She was predeceased by her husband Herb and her parents, as well as her grandson Christopher ("CJ") McGuire and great-grandson Jaxson Clark who both went on to Heaven without ever taking a breath here on this Earth.
A memorial service to honor Sandy will commence at 12:00 noon on Tuesday September 5, 2023 at the Atwood Christian Church, 229 South Main Street in Atwood IL, with Reverend Don Gerkin officiating. Burial will follow in Mackville Cemetery, Atwood IL.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Atwood Christian Church.
Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, Atwood, IL is entrusted with the arrangements.
