Sam Dick, 85, of rural Hammond, IL, passed away at 9:20 p.m., Sunday, November 25, 2018 at the Arthur Home, Arthur, IL

Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, November 30, 2018 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL, with Rev. John Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the Hammond Cemetery, Hammond, IL.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, November 29, 2018 at the funeral home.

Sam was born on August 11, 1933 in Decatur, IL, the daughter of Earl Lewis and Pauline Poole Dick. He married Kaye Thompson Helton on January 15, 1971 in Lake City, IL, whom he dearly loved. She survives.

Also surviving are their children: Deb (Dennis) Crnkovich of Morton, Diane (Cathy Melemans) Dick of De Pere, WI, Chris (Karen) Helton and Steve (Cindy) Helton both of Arthur and Tami (Roger) Sanders of Mattoon, grandchildren: Amanda Derrick, James Hawkins, Kaitlyn Crnkovich, Andrew Hopkins, AnneMarie Hopkins, Mitchell Helton, Kaylee Hampton and Morgan Hampton, great-grandchildren: Paighton Derrick, Drake and Evyn Hopkins, sister: Carol Myers of Dallas, TX, special nephews: Scott, Craig and Grant Myers.

He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter: Mollie Hampton.

Sam graduated from Lovington High School in 1951 and from the University of Illinois in 1955. He loved farming and lived on the family farm all of his life. Sam was a former board member of the Pierson Grain Company, having served as president from 1988 to 1995. He served as a Hammond Mutual Drainage Commissioner and Lowe Township Trustee for many years.

Sam was a member of the Hammond United Methodist Church, life member of the Masonic Lodge and Tri-County Shrine Club.
