Obituary

Roger D. Simpson, 66, of Tuscola, IL passed away at 8:03 a.m. at his residence.

Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m., Monday, July 21, 2014 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL, with Rev. Kenneth Roedder officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral homeBurial will be in the Tuscola Township Cemetery, Tuscola, IL with military graveside rites accorded.

Mr. Simpson was born January 18, 1948 in Charleston, IL, the son of Ray and Ruby Parker Simpson. He married Darlene Donnals on April 8, 1972 in Charleston, IL. She preceded him in death on June 18, 2006.

He is survived by a step-daughter: Kimberly Burton of Humboldt, IL; step-grandchildren: Amy Burton of Humboldt, IL; Tiffany Rideout of Arcola, IL; Travis Rideout of Decatur, Il and Andrea Burton of Arcola, IL and 5 great-grandchildren: Maddison Rideout, Jefferey Ekiss, Bentley McDuffee, Thomas Sisk and Avery Sisk all of Arcola, IL

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother: Larry Simpson and half-brother: Robert Parker.

Roger grew up in Kansas, IL, graduating from Kansas High School in 1966. He was a member of the U.S. Navy from 1967 to 1971 during the Vietnam Conflict. Roger moved to Tuscola, IL in 1971. He worked for Kraft Foods in Champaign, IL from 1971 until his retirement in 2007, after 36 years of service.

Roger was a member of Tuscola Lions Club and Tuscola Moose Lodge. He attended the Tuscola Church of the Nazarene. Roger's favorite past time was stock car racing. He could be seen at Charleston, Danville, Farmer City and Macon Speedways. He also attended several NASCAR races.

Roger had battled cancer for several years.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Hands-4-Paws or to the Tuscola Lions Club.
