Robert H. Rost, 84, of Hammond, IL, passed away at 8:00 P.M., Thursday, January 24, 2008 at the Arthur Home, Arthur, IL
Graveside Services with military graveside rites will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, January 28, 2008 at the Hammond Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4-6 P.M., Sunday, January 27, 2008 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL.
Mr. Rost was born on February 10, 1923 at Green Bay, WI, the son of John and Edna Birky Rost. He married Jean Wirth on October 4, 1947 at Bloomington, IL. She preceded him in death on March 20, 1995.
Survivors include 1 Son: Larry Rost of Champaign, IL, 1 Daughter: Sharon Helm of Tuscola, IL, 1 Grandson: Brandon and 1 Granddaughter: Brittany, 1 Brother: Donald Rost of Xenia, OH, 1 Sister: Rebecka Amoto of Omaha, NE
He was preceded in death by his Parents, 1 Brother, and 1 Grandson: Chris Helm
Mr. Rost was self employed in Hammond for over 40 years. He operated service stations, a wholesale tire business and finally retiring from being a Chevrolet dealer for 18 years in 1989.
He was an Air Force Veteran of World War II. He served as a Sergeant with the 436th Troop Carrier Group as a parachute rigger in the European Theater. Mr. Rost was a former member of the VFW Post #2876 in Villa Grove, IL.
Memorials are suggested to the Hammond United Methodist Church.
