Robert G. Fleming, 80, of Atwood, IL, went to meet His Lord on Friday, December 11, 2009 at 4:40 a.m.
Services will be held on Monday, December 14, 2009 at 2:00 p.m., at the First Baptist Church of Atwood with Dr. Lanny Faulkner officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Sunday, December 13, 2009. Burial will be in the Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, IL with military graveside rites accorded. The Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL is handling the arrangements.
Bob was born on February 24, 1929, son of Ray and Permilla Fleming. He married Carolyn Wilkerson on July 11, 1954 in Mattoon, IL.
He is survived by his wife, 2 sons: Randy and Billy (Shari) both of Atwood, IL, 5 Grandchildren: David Fleming, Mitch Fleming, Amy Haynes all of Atwood, Matthew Fleming of Charleston, IL, and Drew Fleming with the US Air Force, 1 brother: Lester Fleming of Mattoon, IL, 1 sister: Lois Ann Fleming of Orcutt, CA.
He was preceded by his parents and a brother.
Bob graduated from Arthur High School in 1947. He attended Utterback Business College in Mattoon for 2 years. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He then worked at Gambles in Mattoon for 4 years. Bob retired from USI Chemical Company at Tuscola in 1991, after 33 years of service.
He was also a salesman for Adams Memorials for 36 years.
Bob coached Little League, was a former member of the Atwood Village Board, Director at the USI Credit Union, board member of the Piatt County Mental Health Dept., and President of the Atwood-Hammond Music Boosters. He was also President of the Atwood Civic Improvement Committee.
His main interest was his church work at the First Baptist Church of Atwood, where he served as a honorary deacon. He also served in many offices of the church since becoming a member in 1954.
He loved his children and grandchildren and was present at most school activities until the time of poor health.
