Robert E. "Punk" Smith, 83, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2025, surrounded by his loving family

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 2, 2026 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL with Rev. Doug Davis officiating. Burial will follow with military graveside rites for the US Navy veteran at the Hammond Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Thursday, January 1, 2026 at the funeral home and 1 hour prior to the services on Friday.

Robert was born April 30, 1942, in Towanda, IL. to Robert and Evon Smith. He proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1959 to 1963.

On July 6, 1963, Robert married the love of his life, Carolyn Davis, and together they raised three daughters.

He was a proud 38-year active member of Carpenters Union #742 in Decatur IL. He and his wife also volunteered their skills on several Habitat For Humanity's building missions.

He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Decatur; a member of the American Legion; and served on the Macon County Honor guard.

He was father to Renee Whightsil (Richard); Michelle Likins (Dennis); and Theresa Dillard (Robert). He was the proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Drew, Mitch, Morgan, Tyler, Calvin, and Elie; and cherished great-grandfather to seven great grandchildren: Emma, Knox, Noah, Lincoln, Quinn, Elizabeth, and Cheyenne, all of whom brought him great joy

He is survived by two brothers: Ben Smith and Alvin Smith. 

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, step-mother, three siblings, and three step-siblings.

Memorials are suggested to the Macon County Honor Guard, Tabernacle Baptist Church or Arthur Southern Baptist Church.
