Robert V. "Bob" Smith, 82, of Atwood, IL, passed away at 4:00 a.m., Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the Tuscola Health Care Center, Tuscola, IL
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 30, 2016 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL with Dr. Lanny Faulkner officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, IL with military graveside rites accorded.
Bob was born on February 21, 1933 in Oblong, IL, the son of Vern and Melrie Utterback Smith. He married Vevalee Lewis on November 20, 1955. She survives.
He is survived by his grandsons: Ethan Hunter Smith and Patrick Alexander Smith both of Decatur, IL, daughter-in-law: Kathy Smith of Decatur, brothers: Paul (Diana) Smith and Jerry Smith and sister-in-law: Barbara Smith
Bob was preceded in death by his son: Dr. Robert Lewis Smith, brother: Michael Smith and a sister: Sandra Lundsford.
Bob retired from Illinois Consolidated Telephone Company, Mattoon, IL, where he worked as a technician.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Atwood and the Atwood Sportsman's Club. Bob served his country during the Korean War as a member of the US Army and was a member and past commander of the James Reeder American Legion Post #770, Atwood, IL.
Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Atwood.
