Richard Kim Perkins, 59, of Atwood, IL, passed away at 9:45 a.m., Saturday, October 6, 2012 at his residence.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 8, 2012 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL with Rev. Darin Elder and Rev. Matthew Perkins officiating. No visitation will be held. Burial with military graveside rites will be in the Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, IL.
Richard was born on March 5, 1953 in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Melvin and Orpha Vaughn Perkins. He married Karen Ann Appleby on December 27, 1971 at the Atwood Christian Church. She survives.
Also surviving is his son: Matthew Eugene Perkins of Atwood, mother: Orpha Kuhns of Minneapolis, Kansas, 3 brothers: Terrill (Mary) Perkins, Robert (Susan) Perkins and Michael (Rose) Kuhns, 4 sisters: Jean (Mike) Robb, Janet (Carl) Almon, Jo (Larry) Timar and Tracy (Mitch) Kral
He was preceded in death by his father.
Richard retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation in 2003. He was a member of the Lovington Assembly of God and the James Reeder American Legion Post #770, Atwood, IL. Richard served his country as a member of the US Air Force.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Lovington Assembly of God or Project Maisie Hugs, a ministry devoted to provide comfort to children with cancer and their siblings during this difficult time.
