Richard Michael Maggio, 81, of Tuscola, IL, passed away at 5:38 a.m., Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 12, 2018 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL, with Pastor Mark Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Cartwright Cemetery, rural Tuscola, IL with military graveside rites accorded.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m., Sunday, March 11, 2018 at the funeral home.
Richard was born on June 16, 1936 in Danville, IL, the son of Stephen and Helen Hart Maggio. He married Judith Ann Stephenson on March 26, 1965 in Atwood, IL. She survives.
Survivors include his daughters: Shelley Marie (Michael) Fortney of Monticello and Christina Eileen (Brad) Hunt of Tuscola, grandchildren: Lindsey (Zac) Keeter of Monticello, Phillip Fortney of Monticello, Lauren Hunt of St. Louis and Ashley Hunt of Tuscola, great-granddaughter: Ruby Keeter, sister: Nancy Maggio of Danville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Richard worked as a chemical operator at USI Equistar Chemical Company in Tuscola from 1966 until his retirement in 2002. He graduated from Danville Schlarman High School and served his country in the US Army from 1958 until 1964 as a MP in Battalion Operations and Intelligence in Germany.
Richard was a very kind person. He enjoyed fishing, watching movies and reading Louis L'Amour books. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, loved to travel and enjoyed watching and attending Illini basketball games. Richard enjoyed watching and supporting his grandchildren in their sporting and musical endeavors.
Memorials are suggested to the Carle Hospice Unit or Eastern Illinois Food Bank.
