Rebecca Jane Samuel Ferguson, age 61, joined her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at 6:14 PM Tuesday, March 12, 2013 after a nine-month battle with stomach cancer at the Champaign Regional Rehabilitation Center.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:30 PM on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at Caanan Baptist Church, 402 W. Main Street, Urbana, with visitation to follow. Rev. B.J. Tatum will officiate. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, March 18, 2013 at Egyptian Memorial Garden in Herrin, Illinois, with Rev. Dr. Kevin Wilson officiating. Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola is assisting the family with arrangements.
Rebecca resided in Champaign and was born July 23, 1951 in Fisher, the daughter of George and Reba Choate Samuel, who are with her today in glory. She married Rodger Ferguson on June 12, 1976 in Urbana and he survives.
Rebecca directly and indirectly has touched people all over the work including through her husband, Rodger, and six children: Esther (Kevin)Wilson of Champaign, Lydia (Derek) Gard of Santiago, Dominican Republic, Abigail (Matthew) Meyers of Champaign, Gabby Ferguson (Joe Dorger) of Portland, Oregon, Salome (Felix) Soriano-Reyes of Reynosa, Mexico, and Sam Ferguson of Plainfield. In addition she is survived by 15 grandchildren; Kaelan, Emory, Seth, and Aiden Wilson; Logan, Isaiah, Simeon, and Amaysa Gard; Lincoln, Carson, and Eliza Meyers; Adirah, Astrid, Gibran, and Amanya Soriano-Reyes.
Rebecca graduated from the University of Illinois in 1973 with a B.S. Degree in elementary education. Rebecca lived a life full of faith in Christ and love for her family. She was the first Kay Arthur Precept Bible Study leader in Champaign and was a beloved member of Canaan Baptist Church in Urbana with many friends along the way.
Memorial gifts may be sent to Caanan Baptist Church, 402 W. Main Street, Urbana, 61801 to be divided among the ministries her family serves with.
