Raymond M. "Ben" Hannon, 75, of Atwood, IL, passed away at 12:08 pm, Sunday, June 6, 2010 at the Tuscola Health Care Center, Tuscola, IL
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Ivesdale, IL, with Monsignor Mark Merdian officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm, Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL with a Rosary Service at 5:00 pm on Tuesday. Burial will be in the St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Ivesdale, IL.
Mr. Hannon was born on September 27, 1934 in rural Ivesdale, IL, the son of Fred M. and Mary Agnes Tucker Hannon. He married Doris Jean Stewart. She preceded him in death in May 1977. He married Viola Stone Durbin on October 28, 1978 in Champaign, IL. She survives.
Other survivors include: 2 Step-Sons: Curtis Durbin of Bement, IL, Michael Durbin and wife: Tina of Bement, IL, Step-Daughter: Deborah Durbin Hannon and husband: James of Mahomet, IL, 9 Step-Grandchildren and 17 Step-Great-Grandchildren, 1 Brother: Paul Hannon and wife: Carolyn of Farmer City, IL, 2 Sisters: Mary Zindars of Monticello, IL, and Rita Stoerger of Ivesdale, IL, Several Nieces and Nephews
He was preceded in death by 3 Brothers: Leo, Joe and Bill Hannon and 1 Sister: Lucille Gregor
Memorials are suggested to the St. Joseph's Catholic Church or American Cancer Society
Mr. Hannon retired from working for the City of Champaign. Ben was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus #1047. He formerly served as President of the ASCME Local #1960 and Vice Chairman of CMECU. He was a US Army Veteran. Ben enjoyed gardening, fishing and camping.
