Purl Culp, 89, of Maryville, formerly of Arcola, died at 10:08 PM Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010 at the Elmwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Maryville.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, with Rev. Bruce Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Arcola Cemetery with military rites by Arcola VFW Post. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the funeral.
Purl was born January 29, 1921 in Crawford County, the son of Martin and Rosa Best Culp. He married Patricia Smith near Arcola on January 30, 1955.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Culp of Maryville; daughter, Sally Bibby and husband Harold of Collinsville; son, Gary Culp and wife Susie of Neoga; 2 grandsons, Marty Culp of Arcola; Ronald Deedrick of Springfield; 4 great grandchildren, Hasha Miller and husband Jorden of Arcola; Zachary Culp of Mattoon; Blake and Bret Culp of Arcola; 1 great great grandchild, Jaiden Miller. He was preceded in death by infant twins, Allen and Alice Culp; daughter, Melissa Culp; 5 brothers; and 6 sisters.
Purl was a welder and a farmer. He was an Army Veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion in Ste. Marie.
