Obituary

Phyllis Joanne "Jodie" Stenger, 74, of Arcola, died at 5:35 PM Monday, November 10, 2008 at Mason Point in Sullivan.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 15, 2008 at the Arcola United Methodist Church, Arcola, with Rev. Bruce Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Arcola Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM Friday at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola.

Jodie was born February 19, 1934 in rural Arcola , the daughter of Philip and Wanda Smith Schultz. She married Victor Stenger in Lompoc, California on June 21, 1952.

Survivors include her husband Vic of Arcola ; 2 sons, Mark Douglas Stenger and wife Susan of Cameron, N. Carolina; Jeffrey Todd Stenger and wife Sandy of Shelbyville; 5 grandchildren, Ashley Hoke of Washington, DC, Matthew Stenger of Lexington, Kentucky, Kaylie Stenger of N. Carolina, Meagan and Ryan Stenger of Shelbyville; brother, Philip Russell Schultz of Champaign; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; one very special niece (the daughter of Jodie's deceased sister), Jeannie Schmid of Port Orchard, Washington. She was preceded in death by one younger sister.

Jodie was a member of the Arcola United Methodist Church, where she served as secretary for several years and sang in the choir until her health failed. She was also employed in the Douglas County Clerk's office for a short time. She dearly loved children and worked as a babysitter for several years. Several of these children still remain very close to her.

Jodie underwent a kidney transplant on August 22, 1995 at the University of Illinois Medical Center, Chicago, a kidney that was donated by her husband, Vic.

Jodie was deeply loved and cherished by her husband, family, and all those who knew her. She will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.
