Phyllis A. Hendrickson, 82, of Atwood, IL passed away at 3:25 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at the Tuscola Health Care Center, Tuscola, IL.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Zion United Church of Christ, rural Arthur, IL with Rev. Dennis Hanner officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL. Burial will be in the Zion Church Cemetery, rural Arthur, IL.
Phyllis was born May 8, 1930 in Bourbon, IL, the daughter of Walter and Esther Clausen VonLanken. She married John Edgar Hendrickson. He preceded her in death on December 30, 2011.
Phyllis is survived by her son: Gary L. Hendrickson of Pattaya, Thailand, daughter: Margaret A. Kamm and husband Howard of Atwood, IL; grandchildren: Melissa Kamm and Kimberly (Shawn) Robinson; step-grandson: Nathan Woodyatt; and great-granddaughter: Riley Robinson; step-great grandson: Dylan Woodyatt; 2 brothers: George D. VonLanken of Hopkinsville, KY; and Roger A. VonLanken of DuQuoin, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother: John R. VonLanken.
Phyllis owned and operated the Family Shoppe in Atwood, IL for over 30 years. She was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ, Zion Women's Fellowship, and was the first female to serve on the Zion church board. She was past matron and member of Arthur Order of the Eastern Star, and past woman of the year of the Arthur BPW. Phyllis was also a member of the Douglas County Farm Bureau, Douglas County Home Extension, Atwood-Hammond Area Association, Tin Can Grannies, Atwood Chamber of Commerce, Apple Dumpling Festival Committee and she served as a 4-H leader for 35 years. She enjoyed writing the "Zion News" articles for several local newspapers.
Phyllis enjoyed quilting, sewing, puzzles, painting, putting together puzzles, and talking on the telephone.
Memorials are suggested to the Millikin University Music Scholarship or the Zion United Church of Christ Building Fund.
