Phyllis Ann Bales, 72, of Hammond, IL, passed away at 9:20 pm, Sunday, February 13, 2011 at her daughter's home in Champaign, IL

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, February 17, 2011 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 66 East US Highway 36, Atwood, IL, with the Rev. Linda Peyla officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Hammond Cemetery, Hammond, IL

Mrs. Bales was born on June 16, 1938 in Tuscola, IL, the daughter of Lester William and Theresa Irene Murphy Lowe. She married James Lewis Bales on December 22, 1956 in Hammond, IL. He survives.

Other survivors include her daughters: Debbie A. Ball of Champaign, IL, Jennifer L. Hoshauer and husband: Troy of Fithian, IL, Becky E. Wittig of Philo, IL, brother: Bill Lowe of Sullivan, IL, Son-In-Law: Ralph Wittig of Monticello, IL, grandchildren: Kate (Lance) Russell, Ryan Wittig, Megan (Todd) Heath, Jamie Ball, Kyle Ball, Lukas Hoshauer and Logen Hoshauer, great-grandson: Joshua Heath and one on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister: Marilyn Harshbarger

Phyllis graduated from Atwood-Hammond High School Class of 1956.
She retired from Piatt County FS, where she had worked for more than 35 years. She enjoyed her Bunco Club, crafting and making doll clothes. Phyllis loved to make love boxes that were sent on to soldiers and school children. She enjoyed spending time with "Peanut" her toy poodle. Phyllis really enjoyed the farmers that she worked with. She enjoyed spending time with her grandkids and great-grandson "Joshie"
