Philip L. Rome, Jr, 76, of Tuscola, IL, died at 11:50 A.M., Tuesday, August 22, 2006 at his residence.
Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Sunday, August 27, 2006 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL, with the Rev. Scott Zorn officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Graveside Services with military graveside rites will be held at 11 AM, Monday, August 28, 2006 at the Tuscola Township Cemetery, Tuscola, IL.
Mr. Rome was born on March 15, 1930 in Gretna, LA, the son of Philip L. and Nelma Serrie Rome. He married Janiece Hatcher on March 3, 1951 in Champaign, IL. She survives. The Rome's celebrated their 55th Wedding Anniversary this past March.
Other survivors include: 2 Sons: Phil Rome and wife: Debbie of Champaign, IL, Ron Rome of Tuscola, IL, 5 Grandchildren: T.J., Brandon, James, Jordan and Emily, 3 Great-Grandchildren: Raven, Sidney and another one due in November named Aiden.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
After graduating high school, Mr. Rome served in the US Air Force at the Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul, IL and he served over seas in Japan from 1952-1953. Mr. Rome has been a resident of Tuscola since 1956. He retired from Quantum-USI Chemical Company, Tuscola, IL, in 1991, after working there as an operator for 37 years. He also farmed for Henry Rahn until this past spring. Phil had a very large collection of truck banks. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the Dixie Cream Donut Shop in Tuscola. He was a very devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by all that loved him. The family would like to thank the Carle Hospice Unit for their care.
