Obituary

Paul L. Jones, 87, of Tuscola, IL passed away at 6:13 a.m. Sunday, July 28, 2013 at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, August 3, 2013 at the Forty Martyrs Catholic Church, 201 East Van Allen Street, Tuscola IL with Father Barry Harmon as celebrant. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, August 2, 2013 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL with a Rosary to be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Tuscola Township Cemetery with military graveside rites accorded.

Paul was born on May 10, 1926 in Galton, IL, the son of Hubert and Clara Spurgeon Jones. He married Mary Weber on October 7, 1950 in Tuscola, IL. She preceded him in death on November 27, 2006.

Paul is survived by his 5 children: Son, Kerry Jones and wife Ann of Decatur, IL; Daughter, Kathy Sapp and husband James of Tuscola, IL; Daughter, Kim Higgins and husband Greg of Tuscola, IL; Son, Kevin Jones and wife Becky of Covington, IN; Son, Kent Jones and wife Inge of Tuscola, IL; Brother, Richard Jones of Tuscola, IL; 9 Grandchildren: Tyler and Rachael Sapp, Allyson and Sean Higgins, Casey Settle and husband David, Andrew Jones and wife Jennifer, Jessica, Liriel and Liam Jones and Great-Grandson: Kayden Lyons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Lynn Jones, and siblings: Mary, John, Carroll, Don, Myrtle, Harry, Marjorie and Maxine.

Paul and his wife formerly operated the Klean-Rite Dry Cleaners in Tuscola, IL. He was a retired mailman, gardener, baker extraordinaire, avid community volunteer, loving father and grandfather.

Paul was a member of Forty Martyrs Catholic Church, the church choir and the Knights of Columbus. He was also an active member of the Tuscola Kiwanis Club. Paul's favorite community projects included the SAM Food Pantry, Forty Martyrs Rosary Garden, Tuscola Health Care Center Garden, and volunteering at the North Ward Elementary School. He loved providing cookies for one and all. Paul was a US Army World War II Veteran.
