Patricia "Pat" Fortney, 95, of Arcola, died at 12:53 p.m. Sunday, November 17, 2024 at Brookstone Estates of Tuscola.

Pat was born September 10, 1929 in Arcola, the daughter of Benjamin "Benny" and Mildred Stump Barnes.  She married Millard Hunter Fortney on June 5, 1946; he preceded her in death on June 23, 1996.

She is survived by her daughter, Jeri and her husband Richard White of Las Vegas, Nevada; son, Joseph Fortney and his wife Marsha (Little) of Hindsboro; 3 beautiful granddaughters, Jenifer Fortney- Klinger of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Kimberly Fortney-McKenzie of Nashville, Tennessee; and Christine Fortney of Kansas City, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Millard, son, Benji; and brother, Jack Barnes.

Pat was involved in many activities and had many interests during her lifetime.  She was an Assistant Brownie Leader; a Den Mother of Den 2 & Pack 96; room mother for all of her 3 children; she taught Bible School and Sunday School at the Arcola Presbyterian Church, where she was a member for over 60 years.  She was a bus driver for the Arcola School District for 30 years; she was a 5-year member of the Arcola Alumni Association; a Coordinator for Arcola Telecare for 12 years; a member of the Arcola Women's Club.

She was a very caring person who collected clothes for the needy and money for funeral flowers for friends and neighbors.  She fed hungry boys who had no where else to eat.

She was a great cook who loved to bake cakes and share recipes.  She loved to watch and cheer the Illini basketball team.  Most of all she was a great friend to many and a wonderful and loving daughter, mother, and grandmother.  She was the last living survivor of the "Fortney" family of her generation.  She will be dearly missed by all who loved her.

She was a woman of strong faith.  May God bless her and watch over her.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 North Locust Street, Arcola, with a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 21, 2024 at the Arcola Presbyterian Church with Pastor Paula Carmichael officiating.  Private inurnment services will follow at the Arcola Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Arcola Presbyterian Church.
