Onie Jay Bowles, 79, of rural Tuscola, IL, passed away at 3:10 am, Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Eastview Terrace, Sullivan, IL
Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 am, Monday, August 30, 2010 at the Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL, with the Rev. Michael J. Ruhlig officiating. Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 pm, Sunday at the funeral home. Burial with military graveside rites will be in the Cartwright Cemetery, rural Tuscola, IL.
Jay was born on March 27, 1931 in Tuscola, IL, a son of Onie Jarman and Averill Pullen Bowles. He married Marjorie L. Conn on November 2, 1950 in Tuscola. She preceded him in death on July 6, 2002.
Survivors include his sons: Tuck Bowles of Lovington, Sam Bowles of Villa Grove, daughter: Susie Kingery of Tuscola, 8 grandchildren and special friend: Joan Kingery of Arthur.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son: Bill Bowles and two brothers: Charles Edward Bowles and Thomas E. Bowles
Memorials are suggested to the Tuscola Community High School Football Program, 500 South Prairie Street, Tuscola, IL 61953
Jay retired from USI-Quantum Chemical Company in 1991, where he had worked as a pipefitter for 35 years. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Kidd during the Korean War. He was a member of the Villa Grove VFW Post and he was a graduate of Tuscola Community High School Class of 1949.
