Naomi Ruth Rothrock, "Grandma Rocky", 91, of Arcola died at 6:25 PM Monday, November 18, 2013 at the Arcola Health Care surrounded by her family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, November 22, 2013, at the Arcola United Methodist Church with Reverends Greg Busboom and Vince Rohn officiating. Burial will follow in the Arcola Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola.
Naomi was born October 30, 1922 in Morris, Oklahoma, the daughter of T.L. and Mary Eden (Mallory) Dunagan. She married Eugene (Rocky) Rothrock on October 20, 1943 at Oak Knoll Naval Hospital in Oakland, California.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene of Arcola; son, Randy (Cindi) Rothrock of Arcola; daughters, Vicky (Wayne) Coffin of Rantoul; Angie (Gerald) Temples of Mattoon; grandchildren, Amber (Justin) Recchion; Ashly Rothrock; Jalena (Mike) Specht; Maressa (Greg) Busboom; Kami (Brett) Hefner; Wes (Shea) Temples; great grandchildren, Blake Rothrock; Adam and Laila Specht; Emma, Luke, and Liam Busboom; Beau and Mia Hefner; Taylor, Cooper, Jaiden, and Ryan Temples; sisters, Eva (Van) Anderson of Arcola; Irene Anson of Seminole, Oklahoma; brother, George (Jean) Dunagan of Arcola. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Willard; and sisters, Mary Etta Brown and Maxine Culver.
Naomi graduated from Stewardson High School in 1940. She and Eugene moved to Arcola in 1954 and this became "home". In 1958 she became one of the "Big 5" original workers with the Thomas Monahan Company where she retired after 30 years. She also served as a Telecare volunteer. Naomi and Eugene took pride in cleaning and maintaining the Arcola High School Fitness Center since it opened more than 25 years ago. In 2002 she and Eugene were selected as the Grand Marshals for the Arcola Broomcorn Festival.
She was a member of the Arcola United Methodist Church where she served as treasurer for 18 years and helped deliver Peace Meals.
"Grandma Rocky" adored her 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; she followed each through birthdays, ballgames, concerts, plays, graduations, weddings, births, and special occasions.
