Myrna
Moore
April 6, 1937 – April 29, 2026
Myrna V. Moore, 89, of Arcola died at 11:11 a.m. Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at Willow Breeze Hospice House, Mattoon.
Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00, with funeral immediately following Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust St., Arcola. Ryan Rappe`, grandson of Myrna officiating. Burial will follow in the Arcola Cemetery.
Myrna was born April 6, 1937 in Cumberland County, the daughter of Chester and Opal (Kellums) Layton. She was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Moore in Corinth, Mississippi on November 5, 1955; he preceded her in death on February 16, 2008. Also preceding her in death was daughter, Cindy Moore, brother Donald Layton and sister, Juanelle Hunt.
She is survived by her son Robert “Bob” Moore, Jr of Mattoon; daughters, Jana (John) Nacke of Arcola, Connie (Brian) Wood of Van Wert, Ohio; Sally Moore of Mattoon; Sheri (Randy) Rappe` of Mattoon: 8 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
Soon after graduation Myrna and Bob married and began their family of six children. For several years she was a homemaker and housewife. Raising six children and Bob being an over the road truck driver she became very self-sufficient and ran all aspects of the home. Myrna had many natural talents, and various opportunities seemed to find her. She learned to upholster furniture before there was YouTube and after refurbishing her own furniture, word was out and people were asking her to reupholster their furniture. She also would wall-paper for anyone that would ask. Since Myrna always drove a station wagon, she was asked to deliver flowers for funerals and then would drive special needs students to school in other districts. After her children were raised, she enjoyed many years working as a receptionist for Dr. Robert Smith, DDS. Even though she was a native of Mattoon, she became a true Purple Rider fan. Many people may remember the huge Purple flag cheerleaders would race up and down the field at football games; that flag was made by Myrna. When the robe for the Homecoming Queen was worn and tatted, Myrna made a new one. These are to name only a few ways Myrna shared her talent with others.
Myrna’s classmates of 1955 were very special to her. She helped organize several class reunions and enjoyed meeting classmates for breakfast in her later years. She also loved meeting at McDonald’s or Dairy Queen for “Myrna Days”.
Myrna will be missed dearly by her close friends, children, and grandchildren.
To celebrate Myrna’s life, memorials are suggested to Willow Breeze Hospice House, 10660 E Co Rd 800 N, Mattoon, IL 61938.
