Obituary

Mildred L. Mayfield Bennett, 94, formerly of Atwood, IL, passed away at 3:20 p.m., Sunday, July 7, 2013 at Symphony of Decatur, Decatur, IL

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 10, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Atwood, 231 North Illinois Street, Atwood, IL with Dr. Lanny Faulkner officiating. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Mackville Cemetery, Atwood, IL. Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, Atwood, IL is handling the arrangements.

Mildred was born on June 8, 1919 in Moultrie County, IL, the daughter of John R. and Nellie Ballard Davis. She married George Mayfield on October 3, 1935. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1977. To this union two children were born, Gary Mayfield, who preceded her in death on February 10, 1986 and Karen (Fred) Wicker of Decatur, IL.

She later married William Bennett. He preceded her in death on March 4, 2011.

Also surviving are four grandchildren: Dawna Ulbricht of Atwood, Michelle (Jimmy) Steven of Tuscola, IL, LeeAnn (Jim) McCue of Charlotte, NC and Ronnie Mayfield of Oakland, IL, five great-grandchildren: Vernita Spry and fiancée Randy Henson, Katy (DJ) Hart, Sara Foster, and Jenn and Chris McCue of Charlotte, NC, seven great-great-grandchildren: Kaci Spry, Stepheni Spry, Calob Foster, Elizabeth Foster, Aliva Foster, Jake Hart and Lillian Hart.
Four step-grandchildren: Tammy (George) Burns of Decatur, IL, Candy (Mike) Loyd of Mansfield, IL, Fritz (Toni) Wicker of Decatur, IL and Amy (Neil) Kane of Naperville, IL

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers: Wayne, Cleo, John and Donald, three sisters: Gladys Malloy, Ruby Morgan and Opal Fair.

Mildred worked at Kincade's Grocery Store in the 40's. She was head cook at the Atwood School lunch program for many years. She worked in sales at Four Seasons in Tuscola and at the Villa in Arthur. Mildred loved to cook, make quilts, fish, dance and watch sports on TV.

Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Atwood.
She will be sadly missed by her family.
