IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Melody
Oye
October 15, 1962 – July 4, 2025
Melody G. "Mel" Oye, 62, passed away on July 4th, 2025 at 2:48 p.m. at Carle Hospital, after a quiet battle with cancer.
Mel was loud in every way — her voice, her laugh, and especially her wardrobe. A proud lover of neon colors and a good handbag (the bigger, the better), she never once faded into the background.
She was a hard worker in every job she held and never backed down from a challenge — or an argument. Stubborn in the best way, Mel was a country girl through and through: tough as nails, loyal to a fault, and happiest when soaking up the sun — whether that was in a tanning bed or floating on a boat. A true firecracker, it's only fitting that she left this world on the Fourth of July.
Mel was preceded in death by her father, William C. Davis; her mother, Nevah Pearl Lindsey Davis; and her youngest brother, Phillip Davis.
She is survived by a colorful and loving bunch: her daughter, Hope K. Griffin of Bellevue, Nebraska; her only grandson, William T. Griffin; her son, Jay Mancha of Idaho; her ex-husband and lifelong friend, Kevin Oye of Tuscola, IL (yes, really — they made friendship after divorce look easy); her brothers, Mark Davis and Mike Davis; and her sister, Tammy Davis.
Mel will be remembered for her fierce love, her bold spirit, and her ability to make a scene just by walking into a room — in the best possible way. She didn't just live life. She marched through it in her favorite tennis shoes and a baseball cap, armed with a loud laugh and a great purse.
