Max E. Carey, 79, of Ashmore, formerly of Arcola, died at 1:59 a.m Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.

Max was born December 6, 1939 in Humboldt, the son of George Hugh and Ethel Rita Toland Carey. He married Lila Bright in Arcola on September 28, 1958; she preceded him in death on January 30, 2019.

Survivors include his son, Mark Carey of Wauchula, Florida; 3 daughters, Bobbie Maulding of Cooks Mills; Debra Coartney of Ashmore; Kathy Farrell of Charleston; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren.

Max was a graduate of Arcola High School Class of 1958 where he played on the football team. He was Service Manager for the Bill Coffey John Deere Dealership in Ashmore for 25 years.  He was a member of the Ashmore Masonic Lodge.

Max was a former member of the Arcola United Methodist Church. He and Lila were members of a Christian Motorcycle Group and they loved riding together.

Shrader Funeral Home, Arcola, is assisting the family with arrangements.
