Mary Ellen Traxler, 73, of Arthur, passed away at 12:07 p.m. at Sullivan Healthcare and Senior Living in Sullivan.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street, Arthur, with Pastor John Maples officiating. Burial will follow at Arthur Cemetery. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service.

Mary was born on February 10, 1953, in Tuscola, the daughter of Darren “Deke” and Darlene June Agge Traxler.

She was a graduate of Arthur High School, Class of 1971, and later attended Mr. John’s Beauty School in Decatur. She went on to open Mary’s Beauty Shop in downtown Arthur, where she built a dedicated clientele and spent many years working as a hairdresser until her retirement.

She is survived by her niece, Christine Yaden (Ken); and her nephews, Andrew (Chelle) Traxler, James Traxler, Jason (Kara) Traxler, Tyler Traxler, and Nick (Kelli) Traxler.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Darren and June Traxler; her brothers, Allan and Terry Traxler; and her niece, Callie Traxler.

Mary was known for her gift for conversation and her warm, engaging personality, which endeared her to all who knew her. Mary had a deep and lasting love for her family, especially for her brothers, with whom she shared a special bond—particularly her brother Terry.

Mary was an avid animal lover. From Tootsie to Tidbit, her love for cats was like none other. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Champaign County Humane Society, 4003 Kearns Drive, Champaign, IL 61822. In addition to memorial contributions, the family would appreciate donations to assist with Mary’s final arrangements.
