Mary Elizabeth Monger Iles, 89, of Tuscola, IL, passed away at 9:22 p.m., Monday December 15, 2014 at the Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, IL.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Sunday, December 21, 2014 at the Tuscola United Methodist Church, 901 North Prairie Street, Tuscola, IL with the Rev. Ted Mitchell and Rev. Kenneth Roedder officiating. Burial will be held in Tuscola Township Cemetery, Tuscola, IL. Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 South Main Street, Tuscola, IL is handling the arrangements.

Mary Elizabeth was born on September 3, 1925 in Tuscola, IL, the daughter of George and Lela Henegar Monger. She married William Iles on July 31, 1949 in Tuscola, IL.
He preceded her in death on May 20, 2005. They had one daughter, Jeannette Iles of Arlington, MA. She survives.

Mary Elizabeth was valedictorian of her high school class. She graduated from the University of Illinois in 1947. She retired from the Tuscola School System after 25 years, where she taught Latin and was the librarian in the High School and East Prairie School.

She was a member of the Tuscola United Methodist Church and had served on the Board of Trustees. She enjoyed bicycling around Tuscola; for many years accompanied by her dog Billie in his basket. She was a lifelong member of a bible study group and volunteered at the Douglas County Museum. Mary was an avid reader.

Memorials are suggested to the Tuscola Public Library.
