Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Hopkins, 69, of Arthur, died at 1:58 AM Friday, January 8, 2010 at Carle Hospital in Urbana.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street, Arthur, with Rev. Michael Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Humboldt Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 PM Monday at the funeral home.

Mary was born January 12, 1940 in Charleston, the daughter of Robert Roy and Nina Viola Craven Harshbarger. She married Gale Hopkins in Humboldt on September 21, 1958.

Survivors include her husband, Gale Hopkins of Arthur; 4 sons, Duane Hopkins and wife Connie of Arthur; Steve Hopkins of Arcola; David Hopkins and wife Aura of Arthur; Troy Hopkins of Atwood; brother, Robert Harshbarger, Jr. and wife Beverly of Danville; 8 grandchildren, Mike Hopkins of Arthur; Elizabeth (Randy) Jerrell of Okeene, Oklahoma; Zachary Hopkins of Arcola; Adam Hopkins of San Antonio, Texas; Andy Hopkins of Arthur; AnneMarie Hopkins of Robinson; Rosemarie Hopkins of Arthur; and Stevey Ray Hopkins of Arthur.

Mary graduated from Mattoon High School in 1958 where she was a cheerleader for 3 years. She attended Humboldt High School her freshman year. After graduating, she worked as a secretary for Armin Baer, attorney at law, in Tuscola. She then worked as a telecommunicator for 19 years under 5 different sheriff administrations in Douglas County. She loved boating, fishing, and Fenton Art Glass.

Mary was a member of the Vine Street Christian Church in Arthur. Memorials are suggested to the church or American Cancer Society.
