Mary Joan Higginson, 80, of Arthur, died at 10:54 PM Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at Arthur United Methodist Church with Rev. Leroy Allison officiating. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM Monday, Sept. 3, 2012 at Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine Street, Arthur. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery at a later date.

Joan was born January 8, 1932 near Albion, the daughter of Otto and Molly Kendrick Orr. She was united in marriage to Jesse Ray Higginson in San Diego, California, on August 11, 1951.

Survivors include her husband Jesse Higginson of Arthur; son, Michael Higginson of Mattoon; daughters, Micki (David) Quinn of Bettendorf, Iowa; Nanette (Brian) Clemons of Decatur; 6 grandchildren, Joshua (Michelle) Clemons of Fairbury; Cameron (Ed) Coller of Arthur; Molly (Neil Eichstadt) Quinn of Sioux Falls, S. Dakota; Cassie Higginson of Charleston; Brynn (Bryan) Kickle of Mt. Zion; Callie Higginson of Mattoon; and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, 4 sisters, and grandson, Bryce Quinn.

Joan graduated from Edwards County Community High School in 1950. She had worked for Albion Telephone Company, Progress Industries in Arthur, and Ingles and Otto Implements. She was a member of the Arthur United Methodist Church.

Joan was a nice person who never met a stranger. She enjoyed being with her family and taking care of her great grandchildren.
