Mary Kathleen "Katie" Brooks, 89, of Arcola died at 11 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2014 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Arcola, with Rev. De`lix Michel officiating. Burial will follow in the Arcola Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Shrader Funeral Home, 204 N. Locust Street, Arcola, is in charge of arrangements.

Katie was born February 14, 1925 in Bourbon, the daughter of Edwin and Frances J. McAvene Russell. She married James L. Brooks in Arcola on January 4, 1946. He preceded her in death on October 14, 1995.

Survivors include two nephews, Thomas (Jennifer) Black of Warsaw, Missouri; Eddie Black of Orlando, Florida; lifelong friends, Mark and Debbie Nacke; and Natalie Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sister, Margaret.

Katie was a member of St. John's Catholic Church where she was also a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Douglas County Home Extension.
